Every advance has it’s drawbacks. Every time there is a new development or invention comes along that has far reaching implications it isn’t long before someone tries to use it for the wrong reasons.
That’s no reason for us to shy away from the new development though, often the benefits far outweigh any problems that can come, but there are some precautions that we need to take.
Technology is such that computers will only do what we tell them, and we need to make sure that the commands that we give them are the right ones to run the programs. When we get those right then we are in a great position.
Making sure that others don’t access our computers (either without our knowledge or against our wishes) is the key! That means having the right security software installed and running.
Many internet providers have programs anti spam programs, but we need to get onto their website and enable it. This can be done easily enough but it’s also good to have anti spam settings on your own security software.
Another key is having the right and up to date Antivirus Software software. New viruses are coming out almost by the day. Being able to download the latest upgrade from the web is so much easier.
The final one that no one should be without is the firewall! Simply put it stops intruders from snooping around on your hard drive and protects you from those who would do you harm. Keeping this up to date is essential. If you have these then you are in a good position for the web.
